Metal mesh asphalt waterproofing membrane is made of metal mesh and fiberglass mat or linen, and is dipped with SBS asphalt. It’s also called metal mesh linoleum. The reinforcement casing materials – Welded wire mesh and expanded mesh
The tension of the galvanized welded wire mesh is stronger than the expanded mesh. The longitudinal tension of the expanded mesh is weaker than the transverse tension. The galvanized welded steel mesh is made of welded wire mesh with rectangle mesh opening. The expanded mesh is made of aluminum mesh with diamond mesh opening. The fracture elongation of the expanded mesh is higher than the galvanized welded wire mesh. And the expanded mesh's crimpness and flatness are better than galvanized welded wire mesh.
The metal mesh's mesh opening is too big to adhere to the dipping material. So to make the waterproofing membrane, a compact fiberglass mat and linen must be dipped to the metal mesh.
The reinforcement casing can be made of the galvanized welded steel mesh and fiberglass mesh, galvanized steel mesh and linen, expanded mesh and fiberglass mat, expanded mesh and linen. The tension of the metal mesh is weaker than two casings because the fracture elongation of two casings is different when the casing is stressed. Reinforcing the casing for the galvanized welded wire mesh could increase the tension of the galvanized. Reinforcing the casing for the expanded wire mesh could increase the tension of the fiberglass mat and linen because the diamond mesh opening has high fracture elongation.
The performance of the membrane
The tensile strength of the metal mesh asphalt waterproofing membrane is high, the lowest strength is 750 N and the highest is 1450 N according to the test. It is a kind of high strength felt.
Usually the fracture elongation of the metal mesh asphalt waterproofing membrane is high. And the fracture elongation of the galvanized steel mesh casing is low. During the tension test, the galvanized steel mesh is displaced in the fixture. The linen linoleum or the fiberglass linoleum extends and never cracks. The fracture elongation of the expanded mesh is high because of its diamond mesh opening. The linoleum made of the expanded mesh is high and the anti-cracking performance of the metal mesh linoleum is good.
Metal mesh asphalt waterproofing membrane owns nice cracking resistance. The strength that the steel mesh fiberglass mat asphalt waterproofing membrane could bear is 384 N. The strength that the steel mesh linen linoleum could bear is 368 N. The strength that the expanded mesh fiberglass mat linoleum could bear 316 N. The strength that the expanded mesh linen linoleum could bear is 308 N. The crimpness and flatness of the expanded mesh asphalt waterproofing membrane is better than the galvanized mesh asphalt waterproofing membrane. During construction, the rolling time of the expanded mesh linoleum is short. But for galvanized mesh linoleum, the rolling time is long. The joint must be firm so that it would not crack.
The metal mesh asphalt waterproofing membrane costs more than the normal SBS asphalt waterproofing melting linoleum. And it is used as the waterproofing layer for civil construction, high-rise building and special industrial building.
